Important Information from Qualifications Wales

Dear all

We have now received information from Qualifications Wales that centres will be asked to submit centre assessment grades, together with a rank order of learners to enable the award of GCSE, AS, A level and Skills Challenge Certificate (SCC) qualifications.   We will ensure, as advised, that the centre assessment grades submitted to WJEC reflect a fair, reasonable and carefully considered judgement of the most likely grade a learner would have achieved if they had sat their exams this summer and completed any non-exam assessment Producing centre assessment grades for each learner will be a holistic professional judgement, balancing the different sources of evidence as guided by Qualifications Wales and WJEC. It is advised that work completed after 20 March, when schools closed, should not be considered when making judgements on centre assessment grades.    We will not, under any circumstances, be able to share the centre assessment grades or the rank order of learners with learners, or their parents or carers, or any other individuals outside the centre.

As a centre we await further detailed guidance on how the data will be collected but advise that year 11 and 13 pupils stop any work for subjects immediately. Staff are being instructed not to accept any further work or provide any feedback or details of marks for any aspect of previously completed work unless instructed to by Qualifications Wales or WJEC.

We realise that this is a difficult time for all concerned but ask that you trust the system that is used to determine results for this examination series will be as fair as possible. Please take care of yourselves in these difficult circumstances and be assured that I will share any further information with you as soon as I receive it.

Best wishes
